I’ve been wanting a standing desk (or rather a sitting/standing desk) since seeing both my son and brother using theirs. But my desk is built into my home office, and I didn’t want to rip it up. So, when I saw the ad for Varidesk in an airline magazine, I was intrigued.
The Varidesk comes completely assembled (thank goodness!) and sits on top of my existing desk. It can be used in either a sitting or standing position. To move between the two, I simply grab the levers on both sides of the desk, and push or pull. Because of the design, I do not have to lift the entire weight of the desk, it assists me.
As you can see below, my desk is facing a corner and I have two monitors. I, however, did not buy the corner model. I bought the Varidesk Pro Plus 36″ and it fits into the corner and holds both my monitors.
I have to admit that there are days when I don’t stand at all. And when I do, I am usually up and down several times a day. I get tired when standing, but it’s a “good tired” that makes me happy to sit down at the end of the day with a glass of wine. I also have found that standing is good for my concentration. It seems to keep me on task a bit better. Anyone else feel the same?
I give my Varidesk
P.S. Did you guess that the picture above is not my actual desk? I’m a messy-desk person, and it’s a bit embarrassing, but here’s my Varidesk. Can you spot the empty bottle of French mustard, the GoDaddy cell phone holder, the new bank card that needs to be verified, or the my quarterly tax payments waiting to be mailed?

My husband has been using a standing desk at work for years. We also have a floating/ standing desk that is attached to the wall, but it’s covered in mail, haha. I love that you were able to make a quick switch. It’s better to sit and stand throughout the day. Couldn’t find the GoDaddy phone case, lol.

LOL! The GoDaddy swag is a bean bag phone stand. It’s green and it’s quite useful.

After recent surgery, I had no choice but to write standing up … and it really hasn’t been pleasant. (I just wrote about it today.)
It’s great that you have found something you like, but I think I’ll have to pass and just get up and move more … once I’m able to sit again!
I guess it just shows, once again, how different we all are as writers.
Barbara Feldman says
Moving is good. But once I start concentrating, I forget to move!
T.O. Weller says
Exactly!! It was easy to do when I was doing work from which I wanted to escape. Now? Not so much. 🙂

I stand when I write. I ended up at the doctor’s office after sitting for hours on end when I was writing my book. I don’t have one of these standing desk mechanisms, my kitchen counter has the height I need to stand up while I write. But I need one of these desks for my actual desk upstairs. Thanks for the review!
Barbara Feldman says
Ohh… I never thought of using the kitchen counter. But I’ve learned from comments that you are not alone! Very clever. I don’t use a laptop, though, so that’s not an option for me.

I am a fan of the standing desk too. I use an antique buffet in my kitchen which is the perfect standing desk height.
Barbara Feldman says
Interesting! So you have no sitting option?
