Dear Barbara,
I am a teacher in Long Beach, Mississippi. Our school, Harper McCaughan Elementary, was totally devastated. We will be beginning school in mobile classrooms on October 3 with no knowledge of anything that we have nor any knowledge of how many students will be there. Of my 22, I have only been able to locate 3. I have taught school for 37 years and have now lost some valuable teaching materials, not to mention the memorable things that I lost in my classroom.
We further have 81 homeless staff members of the Long Beach School District. If you know of any individuals, companies, or schools who would like to help in our efforts to restore our educational system, please let me know by email or phone.
Sincerely,
Anne Ladner

Dear Anne,
I am speechless. If anyone has the capacity to help, I have Anne’s email address and phone number.

I have just come alone this site and would like to take the time to tell all, “thank you very much for everything that was sent to Long Beach!!” My children attend Harper McCaughan Elementry and the year Katrina hit was my youngest childs first year of school and thanks to people like you it was a sucess!! We are now in process of building our new school in a new location and my son asked the other day “Am I going to walk down the halls like the other kids?” and just then I realizes he had never been in a real school just a make do trailor! This will be his third year in school, but next year in third grade He will walk the halls (with his big sister in fourth grade) of Harper McCaughan School!!!

I am a 5/6 multiage teacher in Hanover Park, IL. I have some materials from previous positions in 4th and 8th grades as well. I also have prepared Thematic Units if you can use them. If your school district is still in need of materials, please, let us know how we can help.

I am a teacher at Bedminster Township School in NJ. A friend of mine knows Sue Korsagus (spelling?) and told us about Harper. We are so sorry for your loss and plight. I too am a teacher…special education for grades 1,2,3 this year. I certainly sympathize with losing all those valuable teaching resources.
Our school has organized a collection of supplies for Harper and its teachers (pencilsl, notebooks, two-pocket folders, scissors, ….. We hope to ship about 30 boxes via Fed EX tomorrow; should arrive in Long Beach at the address of your superintendent for Monday. They are labeled for each grade level and some boxes are miscellaneous supplies. I hope this helps you. Would love to correspond with your teachers and hear about other ways we can assist you…professional to professional.

I have numerous supplemental teacher resource books for grades 3-6. There are books covering all subjects. Would these be useful?
