What a week! With my mom in my brother’s capable hands, I took off for a whirlwind spring break college tour with my daughter and one of her friends. The two girls have really different interests (biology/zoology vs English/creative writing) and often would react completely differently to schools. At times, J. would say “Yuck, terrible vibe.” and E. would reply, “Wow, I like it!”
Including the informal tours, where the girls did not take a tour, but rather just visited friends in the dorms, we saw about a dozen schools in eight days. Despite the hectic schedule, I felt more relaxed at the end, then I did at the beginning because of the terrible week I had had after my mom’s car accident.
Many thanks to all who sent my mom their well wishes. My mom is doing a lot better, but still has a long road ahead of her. Considering what I’d been through, it was pretty ironic that I was writing about Mother’s Day this week.

Our daughter is looking at going to college in the Northeast. She wants to get a BS/BA in creative writing and or professional writing. Do you have any suggestions as to what college ? When we thought we narrowed down to 5 schools we found out through some deeper research that 4 of the 5 had some significant problems that were not a good match for our daughter. She is a loaner, bookworm, not a party type of girl and a excellent student. Any ideas would be appreciated.

My husband did the college tour with our daughter. However, since we lived in Oregon and most of our family was in New England, the tour happened in the summer time and was a cross country tour, including southern colleges.
I can tell you that it was WELL WORTH the effort. Colleges that looked good on paper were not hospitable in fact. Others were not a good fit and both Daddy and daughter could see this.
She ended up at Cornell University, which worked out perfectly for her and the whole family.
Good luck with your girls.
