Last month, on a rare hot San Diego day, our ten-month old kitty was panting. Now we have dogs that pant plenty, but we’d never seen a cat pant. Long story short, Howard took little Snookums to the vet and we learned she has a heart murmur. We opted out of doing any additional tests, and figured it was just something we needed to keep in mind.
Then yesterday, Snookums started acting “strange.” First thing we noticed was an odd guttural vocalization, a restlessness (like she couldn’t get comfortable) and a wiggling/squatting position that looked like she needed to poop. Off we went to the vet who suggested that maybe she swallowed something that was she was trying to pass (did I mention the eight rubberbands we found in the litter box last month?) or perhaps she’s in heat. To help with her digestion, he gave her a fiber shot and sent us home with extra-fiber cat food.
Then later that night, I did some Internet research …. and after all my professional training… we’ve come to the conclusion that we just spent $105 to learn our kitty is in heat! We’ve been advised to wait until next week to get her fixed. Little Snookums is a big girl now! Poor thing actually seems quite uncomfortable. But soon she join the ranks of the “fixed.”
P.S. Hag Samaech. Tomorrow is Rosh Hashana 5768.
