I’m experimenting with adding educational quotes to the weekly Surfnetkids newslettter. You can see this feature in today’s edition. This idea then lead to another, and I created a short movie over the weekend on the topic of lighting an educational fire.
I titled it “Light a Fire” ( http://www.surfnetkids.com/movie/ ).
I am hoping teachers and parents will like the movie, and pass the URL around to their friends and colleagues. What do you think?

This is a wonderful example of utilizing the technology to spread the messsage of education in a variety of ways. We will be sure to spread this in our European District of American Students, Educators & Parents.
Your “Light my Fire” reminds me of a quote I use often….
“You can NOT Teach what you don’t know. You cannot give energy if you’re NOT ON FIRE inside.” ~ Jesse Jackson

Excellent work. I am sending the link to my daughter-in-law who is just finishing her practise teaching before certification. She has often expressed similar thoughts. The only problem will probably be that the modem is 56K and she may not be able to wait to finish it, if the above comments are an indication.

I am sending this url to all my co-workers. I think we ALWAYS need encouragement and inspiration. You have chosen quotes and images that work together to remind us why it is we do what we do. Thanks from a Kansas Teacher/Media Specialist!

Barbara,
It was truly inspirational! I forwarded to my principal and will definitely forward it to my fellow teachers.
Thanks for brightening my day!

I can’t wait to pass this on to our teachers and supt. What wonderful reminders to us to look for the potential in children and do everything we can to help them turn into the “butterflies” and reach their potential because of the education they have received.

I liked the quotes Barbara but here’s some technical feedback – on a 56k modem, it took 5 minutes before the first image played (if it wasn’t you I would have dumped the download and clicked off). The music finished (and stopped) about halfway, the images didn’t fade to black between quotes because it was still loading.
1.9Mb is a big Flash file maybe you should add a filesize warning to the link for us country folk on slow modems? You could try a bit more compression on the images in Flash and looping the music would help the experience.

GREAT movie. Inspiring! It even made me get tears in my eyes. (I’m pretty emotional!)
I will pass this on to some teachers here in southern California. Also am sending it to a girl I know who is an amazing educator getting her Doctorate at the U of Mich in Ann Arbor. I know she will love it too.

Barbara, thanks for the reminder. I am at my desk, during planning, after a tough day with one of my students. Now, I remember, after watching the movie, that I need to “let” my fire light shine, and refuse to do or say anything that will cause it to go out. The movie reminded me of my passion and my calling, in spite of today’s events. Tomorrow, I will start again. Great movie, great music. I definitely am passing it on.

Hi, Barbara!
I’m passing your wonderful wonderful “Light My Fire” movie along to two teachers I love, both also named Barbara! The photos were lovely, music soothing and inspirational, and the quotes were terrific and really made my day. You make the internet a super cool place to go every week and keep me and my son really sparking! Thanks a million!!

Hi,
Very nicely done. I shared the URL with the three schools I serve. My position, as a Curriculum Technology Partner, allows me to help teachers at the elementary level to integrate technology into their curriculum. Needless to say, your newsletter provides me with a wealth of information EVERY week. Keep up the great work!

Loved your movie. I will post it on our Web site for all to see! As a parent and individual committed to the education of our youth, I’d love to see more of this stuff. We can do so much with technology and the Internet to inspire our children – your newsletter is a great resource. Keep it coming!

Loved the quotes and the images. I will certainly forward it to the teachers I work with. Only thing is I did find the transition between slides to be somewhat slow. My screen was black for a fairly long time. I guess it could be my connection or PC speed, but other things aren’t usually slow to respond. I will check it out again on the high speed connection at work, but that won’t be until next Tuesday.
Love your newsletter, and the site.
Cheers

Hi Barbara,
Loved the ‘light my fire’ slide show. It lit up an otherwise grey and rather boring day here in England.
best wishes
